Emerald Engagement Rings

An emerald brings a green that no other stone matches, and it asks for a little more care in return. At 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale it is harder than glass but more brittle than a sapphire, because almost every emerald carries inclusions that run through it.

That is not a flaw to hide. Inclusions are how you tell a natural emerald from an imitation, and they are accepted in the trade. What matters for daily wear is the setting: you choose it here, along with the metal and the band.

Setting an emerald so it lasts

The corners of a rectangular emerald are the weak point, which is why the emerald cut exists in the first place: it takes the corners off. A bezel that wraps the edge in metal, or claws that sit over the corners, protects the stone where it needs protecting. A high, exposed setting is the one to avoid if the ring is worn every day.

Yellow gold pushes the green warmer and is the traditional pairing. White gold and platinum keep it cooler and closer to blue. Small diamonds next to the stone add the light an emerald does not give back on its own.

Made to order

Every ring is made to order in a German goldsmith's workshop and the stone is set by hand. The engraving on the inside is free, delivery is free, and a certificate for the stone comes with the order.
